Services we provide
Location Recording
SoundBoard specializes in location recordings of acoustic music in concert
halls, churches, and auditoriums. All of our professional equipment is
transportable in cases and allows us to set up a control room at the
performance site. We have sufficient equipment to operate two recording
projects simultaneously.
But technology alone does not produce a successful recording. Our staff will
support the artist and producer musically and technically through all stages of
the project. Whether it is a concert performance of a solo instrument or
symphony orchestra, or a recording session, our experience and high
technical standards ensures a quality production.
The comprehensive list of our equipment includes extensive microphone
choices, pre-amplifiers and mixing consoles, digital converters, and digital
multi-track hard disk and analog tape recorders.
Surround sound
Multi-channel surround sound recordings are available using the Soundfield
microphone and discrete multi-microphone arrays. These stereo-compatible
multi-channel recordings can be distributed on conventional audio CDs using
Dolby Digital or DTS encoding/decoding to create 5.1 surround sound on
suitably equipped playback systems.
Broadcast audio
We are also experienced in providing audio mixes of concerts for live and
recorded radio and television broadcasts.
Editing, Mastering, Restoration
Working directly with the artist or producer, SoundBoard offers quality editing,
mastering, restoration post production services at two studio locations in
Dallas.
We can also provide CD duplication and artwork design services.
Editing
Editing and assembly of the original recording is done with 24/32-bit 192kHz
multi-track Digital Audio Workstations (Macintosh and PC-based) using
Nuendo, ProTools and Samplitude applications. Our musical expertise and
editing skills will create a seamless performance that follows the intentions of
the artist.
Multi-track recordings will be carefully mixed to ensure that the natural musical
balances of the performers are faithfully maintained.
Mastering
Mastering includes arranging the edited sections into their final sequence and
spacing, and adding appropriate fade-ins and fade-outs, equalization and
dynamics processing that improves the audio. The finished product is a
master that is ready for replication.
Throughout this process we use accurate full-range monitor systems plus the
best digital and analog signal processors.
We can accept most analog and digital sources for editing and mastering.
Restoration
Broadband background noise (such as hiss, humming lamp filaments, or air
conditioning fans), crackles, clicks, pops, and hums can be eliminated or
substantially reduced using specialized restoration software.
These techniques can be applied in preparing historic analog tapes or
records for transfer to CD.
CD duplication
SoundBoard can produce quick turn-around of short-run CD orders (from one
to a few hundred) using high-quality, high-speed CD-R copiers. Color printed
CDs, tray cards, and booklets are available.
We also provide CD replication (more than 1,000 copies) and in-house
artwork and packaging design services.
